Dirk Laureyssens, a Belgian toy inventor, created the Happy Cubes in 1986. The puzzles are known by other names such as "Cube It!" cubes, "Wirrel Warrel" (in the Netherlands), "I.Q.ubes" and "Cococrash" (in Spain and Portugal). The mechanical puzzles can be solved in a single color, flat jigsaw-type rectangle or into a single color cube shape. The puzzles are also expandable when different colored pieces are combined into larger shapes. Not pictured: additional variations of the foam puzzles include Junior which feature icons such as food and vehicles designed for ages 3-7, and Pro and Expert which both feature marbled surfaces and are named after great minds from history.
