American and British Popular Music (1950-70s)

Popular music in the US during the 50s to the 70s ranged from Doo Wop, R&B, gospel, jazz with the blues, funk, and soul. British popular music during this time saw mostly British rock, Beat music, British rhythm and blues, British soul, Glam rock, Punk rock, and New wave music. All of these genres had their own distinct style of fashion. This exhibit will feature videos of selected artists from these decades.

Asian Representation in Music Fashion

Pop music refers to popular music and generalizes all music that is popular and includes many styles of music. J-pop, also known as Japanese popular music, has roots in traditional Japanese music, but most modern groups fuse together rock, new wave, crossover fusion, and eurobeat. K-pop, also known as Korean popular music, includes different styles from around the world, such as, hip hop, R&B, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, and classical alongside its traditional Korean music roots. This exhbit will feature videos of top songs of J-pop and K-pop songs of Japanese and Korean artists.

Fashion in the Golden Age of Hip Hop

Golden age hip hop is a name given to mainstream hip hop music created from the mid-1980s to early -mid 1990s. It was an subgenre of the new school hip hop movement, it is characterized by its diversity, quality, innovation and influence on hip hop after the genre's emergence and establishment in the old-school era. It came about with the success of mainstream hip hop. This exhibit will feature videos of top songs of what is known as the Golden Age of hip hop.

Hyperpop (sometimes called digicore) is a loosely-defined music movement characterized by an exaggerated take on popular music, drawing on tropes from electronic, hip hop, and dance music. This exhibit will feature videos of selected hyperpop artists.

Latin Representation in Music Fashion

Reggaetón evolved from dancehall and has been influenced by American hip hop, Latin American, and Caribbean music. The vocals in reggaetón include rapping and singing, typically in Spanish. Latin trap is a subgenre of trap music, and is heavily influenced by reggaetón. This exhibit will feature videos of top songs of reggaetón and Latin trap artists.
