<dcterms:description>An eye-opening documentary that focuses on many never-before-seen solutions designed to slow down our escalating environmental crisis, Ice on Fire goes beyond the current climate change narrative and offers hope that we can actually stave off the worst effects of global warming. Narrated by producer and Oscar®-winner Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Leila Conners, who first collaborated with DiCaprio eleven years ago on The 11th Hour, the feature-length documentary focuses on cutting-edge research behind today’s climate science – and the innovations aimed at reducing carbon in the atmosphere, which could pave the way for a reduction in the global temperature rises and a benefit to the planet’s life systems. With sweeping cinematography of a world worth saving, Ice on Fire crossing the globe, from Norway to Alaska, Iceland to Colorado, Switzerland to Costa Rica to Connecticut to highlight the firsthand accounts of people at the forefront of the climate crisis, with insights from scientists, farmers, innovators and others, finding that while the risks and urgency may be higher than ever today, there are also greater opportunities for innovative solutions, offering a realistic but hopeful perspective on a key global issue that demands our attention. The Bangladesh delta is stunning and lush - but it's also under threat from the increasingly extreme weather that climate change is causing. The cyclones rolling in from the Indian Ocean are an enormous problem for such a low-lying country: a quarter of Bangladesh is just a few feet above sea level. But Bangladesh is blessed with one of nature's greatest defences against the tidal surges caused by extreme weather: mangrove trees. Ade joins a government effort - racing against the tide - to plant huge new areas with mangroves. In Bhutan, Ade discovers how melting Himalayan glaciers are affecting the entire world. He also meets a yak herder and hears how hard life is getting for normal people there. But after speaking with the prime minister of Bhutan, Ade discovers how Bhutan isn't just carbon neutral, it's carbon negative. A BBC Production.</dcterms:description>

Reaching deep into our planet’s history, scientists search for clues to what might happen in the future. Whilst advanced special effects and high-end computer animation provide us with a window into what this future may look like. Follow scientists as they drill into seabeds across Greenland and Antarctica and conduct radar flights and satellite expeditions to discover the stark reality of what climate change could mean for life as we know it. </dcterms:description>

Their plankton provides us with oxygen. Their currents transport heat from the tropical regions to the poles, acting as an air conditioner. They absorb almost a quarter of the carbon dioxide emitted annually. But so much of what they do and exactly how they do it is still unknown. To gain a deeper understanding of the importance of oceans in regulating our climate, we bring you four stories from four different corners of the world. From the seaborne lives of the Bajaus of Asia to the scientific crew of the Tara in Greenland. From the meteorological station in Siberia to the fishermen of the Gulf Stream. Four people, four seasons, four stories told in parallel over 24 hours that reveal the sometimes invisible ties between man and the sea.</dcterms:description>

There are no funds to build a cement sea wall, so the city dumps garbage along its waterfront in an attempt to shield itself. As mayor, Cheikh Bamba Dièye took on the responsibility of protecting his constituents from flooding, but with a severe lack of financial and infrastructural resources, the world stage became his principal weapon. Filmed prior to his appointment as minister of regional planning in Senegal’s national government, this program follows Mayor Dièye as he visits the imperiled streets, structures, and beaches of his city and as he travels to Mexico City to address the World Mayors Summit on Climate Change, hoping to focus global attention on the local impact of global warming. A meeting with host mayor Marcelo Ebrard brings out comparisons and contrasts in the ways that urban areas around the world face environmental challenges. (26 minutes)</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>How much time do we have before our ecosystem collapses? Fronted by Academy Award®-winning actor, environmental activist and UN Messenger of Peace, Leonard DiCaprio, this landmark new film presents an informative and engaging account of how society can prevent the demise of endangered species, ecosystems and native communities across the globe. Viewers are presented with visual evidence of a worsening environmental crisis that is inflicting irreversible damage on pristine landscapes from Greenland to Indonesia, disturbing the balance of our planet’s climate and hastening the extinction of beloved animals. Encouraging people to vote for leaders who prioritise climate change policies, the film also explains real, practical solutions to help save the planet. DiCaprio interviews individuals in both developing and developed nations who provide unique, impassioned and pragmatic views on what must be done today – and in the future – to transition economic and political systems into environmentally friendly institutions. Interviewees include US President Barack Obama, Former US President Bill Clinton, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and Pope Francis, as well as top NASA researchers, revered scientists and fervent activists working to save the world. Climate change is the most fundamental threat facing our planet. Before the Flood encourages people to work together as a collective voice to demand major action now – and ensure our survival. Back in the U.S., Don Cheadle visits Plainview, TX where a community once reliant on a meat-packing plant for its livelihood is looking for answers. Many blame the drought that caused the plant’s closure on the will of God or say it’s part of a natural cycle; however, Katharine Hayhoe—a climate scientist and Evangelical Christian—has a very different explanation. And, Pulitzer Prize-winner Thomas Friedman embarks on his first of three Middle Eastern trips to examine how climate change can be a stress point in a volatile political situation and push it over the edge. This film is the wake-up call to the reality we are afraid to face: that in the midst of a human-caused extinction event, the environmental movement’s answer is to push for techno-fixes and band-aids. It's too little, too late.
