<text>Blue Spring State Park covers more than 2,600 acres, including the largest spring on the St. Johns River. Blue Spring is a designated Manatee Refuge and the winter home to a growing population of West Indian Manatees. During our famous manatee season, which approximately runs from mid-November through March, several hundred manatee can be viewed atop the spring’s overlooks. The spring and spring run are closed to all water activity while manatees are present during this time. Swimming or diving with manatees is not permitted; this rule is strictly enforced.

The spring´s crystal clear, 73 degree water can be enjoyed by swimmers, snorkelers, and certified scuba divers with a partner during our designated swimming season. Fishing, canoeing and boating are also enjoyed along the St. John’s River. River boat tours are available; for reservations, call Blue Spring Adventures at (386) 775-0046

A self-guided tour inside the historic Thursby house, built in 1872, can also be experienced. In addition the park has plenty of picnic areas as well as three covered pavilions. Air-conditioned cabins and a full-facility campground are available for visitors interested in staying overnight.
Due to heavy visitation, it is recommended for visitors to arrivie early to ensure entrance into the park

<text>Built in 1926, the Tampa Theatre is one of America’s most elaborate movie palaces and a beloved community landmark.

Visitors to the Theatre enjoy world-class entertainment under a realistic night sky with twinkling stars, in a romantic Mediterranean courtyard replete with old-world statues, flowers, and gargoyles.

Like other movie palaces around the country, Tampa Theatre was enormously popular when it opened. For the first time in history, the common person had access to opulence — for 25 cents!

But by the 1960s, times had changed. The rise of television and migration to the suburbs had a profound impact on the movie palaces that lit up America’s main streets. Audiences dwindled, costs rose, and many of our nation’s finest movie palaces were demolished.

In 1973, Tampa Theatre faced the same fate. But Tampa’s citizens rallied. Committees and community leaders got involved, and soon reached a deal with the City to rescue the Theatre.

Today, the Theatre is managed by the not-for-profit Tampa Theatre Foundation. As one of the most heavily utilized venues of its kind in the United States, Tampa Theatre’s single auditorium hosts more than 700 events each year, including a full schedule of first-run and classic films, concerts, special events, corporate events, tours and educational programs.

Open to the public year-round, its holdings include the only European Old Master paintings in the Orlando area, a sizeable American art collection, and a forward-thinking contemporary collection on view both at the Museum and The Alfond Inn at Rollins. In 1981, the Museum became one of Florida’s first college museums to be accredited by the American Association of Museums (currently the American Alliance of Museums) and continues in 2022 as one of only four AAM-accredited museums in greater Orlando.

The two-story, red brick firehouse was initially located on Orlando Avenue, near Dade Street, in College Park from 1926 – 1978.

In 1972, the new Station 3 was built in College Park. The Orlando Science Center moved the old station to Loch Haven Park. The old station had fallen into disrepair and faced an uncertain future. The Science Center, in cooperation with the Central Florida Fire Chief’s Association, restored the building’s exterior. The interior renovation that followed transformed the old station into a fire museum.

In 1988, the Historical Society installed a new roof, fire stairs on the north side of the building, and restored the bathrooms. The station reopened two years later with a celebration and tours about the history of the Orlando Fire Department.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Jim Helsinger and Managing Director Douglas Love-Ramos, Orlando Shakes has grown into one of the region’s most acclaimed professional theaters, garnering national recognition from The Wall Street Journal’s Terry Teachout: “outstanding…spectacular… Broadway worthy… a company that deserves to be far more widely known outside Florida.”

The theater continues to provide an innovative world-class theatrical experience to its guests, while showcasing William Shakespeare’s legacy as the cornerstone of the company.

Orlando Shakes also offers immersive educational programming that serves Central Florida schools and the local community at large.
