<text>
Nagabe is a Japanese manga artist who studied fine arts at Musashino University. Rather than taking the traditional apprenticeship path into the industry, Nagabe trained independently, and was still a student when his first published work appeared. His debut attracted attention for its distinctive drawing style - heavily influenced by fine art printmaking - and for narratives blending the fantastical with the melancholic.

His best-known work, "The Girl from the Other Side", ran from 2015 to 2021 across eleven volumes in Monthly Comic Garden. Set in a medieval-like world where a deadly curse spreads by touch, it was partly inspired by the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast and was nominated for the Best Comic award at the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival. An animated film adaptation by Wit Studio was released in 2022.
</text>
