This image is of a light-brown butterfly with elongated white spots hanging on the green leaf of a plant at Circle B Bar Reserve in Lakeland, Polk County, Florida.
The Gulf Fritillary is found throughout the southern United States. Passionflower vines are the host plants for the Gulf Fritillary caterpillar. The Gulf Fritillary is brown and white on the underside of its wings, and orange and black on the top side of the wings.
