Mission

The mission of the Digital Dino Den is to bring paleontology enthusiasts and dabblers together on a virtual platform to explore their interests.
We hope to create a place where amateur dinosaur and paleontology enthusiasts can come together and have easy access to information that may be of interest to them all in one convenient place. We will do this by providing access to:
- Maps of current digs
- Sketches and imagery of dinosaurs, fossils, and the like
- Links to current museum exhibits
- Links to the schedule of Jurassic Quest and other websites related to paleontology
We seek to make paleontology accessible to those that may not have the means or ability to get to museum exhibits or digs but want to learn more about the field.

Collection Development

Content in the Digital Dino Den will include images of fossils, digs, and possible sketches, geological reports, maps, and links to Jurassic Quest and various museums. Content will attempt to focus on dinosaurs of the Western United States, as very few would be found in the Central and Eastern part of the country.
Images selected for the archive will be born digital photographs, selected to be free from copyright restrictions and free for public use. The Collection Developer will determine if items meet all criteria needed to be included in the collection. The Collection Developer will work with the Metadata Organizer to ensure all materials are properly input into the digital library with correct metadata. Any master image files will be in TIFF format, while accessible copies and thumbnails will be in JPEG format. File names will follow a standardized format.
