The Cryptid Caravan

Mapping the Unseen from Florida to Maine

Mission Statement

The Cryptid Caravan is a specialized digital archive dedicated to the systematic documentation of regional folklore, urban legends, and anomalous biological entities found along the East Coast of the United States. Our mission is to bridge the gap between historical archival practices and modern cryptozoological research.

By organizing records as a "Caravan," we emphasize the geographic journey from the southern wetlands to the northern highlands, treating each cryptid not just as a myth, but as a permanent resident of its specific environment.

The Classification System

Our library utilizes a dual-metadata approach, categorizing items as either Cryptids (the entities) or Locations (the habitats). This allow researchers to track the "Home of..." relationships between monsters and the transit systems, bridges, and forests they inhabit.

Threat Assessment: The Danger Scale

Every entity in our Bestiary is assigned a Danger Level ranging from 1 to 5. This metric assesses both the physical threat to humans and the supernatural influence of the entity.

Level 1: Passive
Elusive or shy. No recorded history of physical harm. (e.g., The Potomac Plesiosaur)
Level 2: Nuisance
Interacts with human property or livestock. Non-aggressive but disruptive.
Level 3: Territorial
Will defend its habitat if provoked. Avoid eye contact or direct approach.
Level 4: Predatory
Actively stalks or hunts. Known for high aggression. (e.g., The DC Metro Monster)
Level 5: Lethal
Extremely hostile. Possesses anomalous weaponry or reality-warping abilities. (e.g., The Bunny Man)

Our Methodology

We employ Dublin Core Metadata Standards to ensure that our records are interoperable with larger academic and scientific digital libraries. Each entry is assigned a unique identifier and geolocated to provide a spatial context for the sightings.
