- Biographical Text
Sui Ishida (石田スイ) is a Japanese manga artist born in Fukuoka Prefecture in 1986. His pen name is kept strictly separate from his real identity, and little is known about his personal life. He won second place in the Weekly Young Jump 113th Grand Prix in 2010 for an early version of "Tokyo Ghoul", which led to the series beginning serialization in 2011. Before manga, he worked as a tattoo artist.
Tokyo Ghoul and its sequel Tokyo Ghoul:re follow a college student who becomes a half-human, half-ghoul hybrid after a violent encounter. The franchise sold over 47 million copies worldwide and was adapted into multiple anime seasons and live-action films. Ishida's current series Choujin X, launched in 2021 on an irregular digital schedule, blends superhero and body-horror genres.
