What are Nintendo Amiibo?

Nintendo's Amiibo are line of toys-to-life figures that can be used to unlock features in games for several Nintendo consoles. Along with the embedded technology, they are phenomenal representations of many beloved video game characters! 

The radio frequency identification (RFID) chip inside the amiibo interacts with compatible consoles and software which then allows players to save and store data, as well as receive special items. The Amiibo can also serve to take saved data on the go. 

Most Amiibo come in the small collectible form, but not all Amiibo fit this description. Some take different forms, such as playing cards, cereal boxes and plush toys.
