About the Nintendo Amiibo Digital Library
Digital Library Goal
The mission of the Nintendo Amiibo Library is to create, make accessible and preserve a comprehensive collection of Nintendo’s line of Amiibo figurines, to fulfill the needs of the user community by organizing these resources into one entity that will last once the figures are no longer sold.
To support our mission to create a comprehensive entity for our users we will
- Create a comprehensive entity dedicated to preserving these materials
- Collect amiibos in support of the mission
- Maintain high metadata standards
- Create an environment that allows users to connect with their favorite resources
- Develop a comprehensive resource detailing how figurines interact with Nintendo games.
Digital Content and Process
File names will be consistently named using Nintendo’s names for the figurines and other best practices for naming conventions. Records will include Library of Congress Subject Headings as access points and allow space for user-generated tags.
Items will be described as follows:
- Physical Item Description
- Abstract of item
- Compatibility with Nintendo Games
- Release date of item
- format
Collection Development Policy and Copyright Management Plan
The Nintendo Amiibo Digital Library will support video game collectors, enthusiasts, and hobbyists alike by providing preservation and access to Nintendo Amiibo figurines.
Selection: Items donated will be evaluated by the collection developer for suitability to the collection. These considerations are as follows:
- Nintendo manufactured
- Original figurines
- From the “Amiibo” line of figures specifically
Addition and Deselection Criteria: Team can suggest items and put forth their own items to be included in the collection which will then be vetted by the Collection Developer. Deselection will be evaluated based on redundancy of items and scope of collection.
Copyright Management: Items in collection are owned by and being donated by the group members. As we are not copying the code within the figure and making it available, this releases us from any copyright restrictions that may exist. The digitized images being created by the group are our born-digital materials, giving us ownership of their digital representation.
Long Term Plan/ Preservation
The physical Amiibo figures will be preserved to best archival standards. Master digitized files and access copies will be saved locally on a Hard Drive and mirrored to an external hard drive for digital preservation. These images will then be uploaded to the digital library which will be hosted on the FSU web server, as well as access copies of the images. These will be maintained by the collection development officer and metadata organizer.
For long term plans of the digital library and future expansion, we would like to host on our own proprietary web server to ensure long term usability. We also want to expand the scope of the DL to also cover a wide breadth of video game aspects. This includes officially produced art, game manuals, marketing as well as consoles.
