- Biographical Text
Known as the "Queen of Horror Manga", Kanako Inuki (犬木加奈子) is a Japanese manga artist born in Hokkaidō in 1958. She made her debut in 1987 with the short story Orusuban (おるすばん) (literally "House-sitting"), published in a special edition of Shōjo Friend compiled by Kazuo Umezu.
She became a central figure in the 1990s horror manga boom, publishing in magazines including Suspiria, Horror House, and Suspense & Horror. She has named Kazuo Umezu and Hideshi Hino among her influences.
Her work often blends folklore, dark irony, and psychological menace, with a recurring focus on girls and women as both victims and perpetrators of cruelty. Her series School Zone and Presents were published in English in the 2000s, and a new English collection introduced her work to a new generation of readers in 2022.
